Warm Weather Halloween Costumes

Dressing up for Halloween can be great fun. There are a lot of costume choices. Traditional, modern, funny, characters from books and movies, unbiased about anything you can think of can be made into a costume. However, the vast majority of Halloween costumes are made for cold weather. This can be a challenge for those who live in climates where it is warm all year, with no change of seasons. What can you wear to that Halloween bash that doesn’t leave you sticky, sweaty and miserable? How do you keep the kids comfortable while dragging around that huge bag of treats they have tranquil?

My first suggestion is to ditch the heavy, furry fabric. When it comes to the material your costume is made of you should go with cool, lightweight, breathable fabrics, such as cotton or tulle. Avoid long Halloween costumes that cover the whole body or wrap tightly. Use fewer props, as you will tire quickly of carrying them around in the hot weather. Also be sure you are well hydrated as this keeps you cooler in warm weather.

Slight girls have it pretty easy when it comes to choosing a Halloween costume for warmer weather. There are many dainty, lightweight choices for them. Fairies and Ballerinas can dress in tiny tutus or frilly little short dresses. No masks are required, which also keeps the heat to a minimum. Another minimal costume is a hula outfit. A cut-off shirt and dinky shorts can be worn under a grass skirt. Add a flower lei and a graceful flower in your hair and you are ready to face any heat wave. Braver girls can dress as bikini contest winners. Wear your bikini and a sheer fabric tied around your waist for decency sake. A winners sash and some shell jewelry completes the outfit.

Women have a variety of options when it comes to a lack of coverage, but I find it wiser to be modest while keeping your chilly. It can be dangerous to dress too provocatively in public. You may invite unwanted attention. A flapper costume dress is small enough to keep you quite cool while still giving you adequate coverage. Add a headband with a long feather to complete your search for. Another cute warm weather Halloween costume is “I Dream of Genie”. Wear a short vest and long puffy sheer pants. Add a hat with some sheer fabric trailing form the top and a blond ponytail.

Boys may want to dress as a pirate and this seems like a hot costume but it can be modified for warmer weather. Substitute an open vest for the puffy shirt, wear roughly reduce off shorts and trade the boots for bare feet. Another titanic warm weather Halloween costume for boys is the surfer dude, life guard or beach bum. Wear colorful Hawaiian baggy shorts, sandals, sunglasses, a whistle, and a tan. Carry a lightweight cardboard surf-board. Some boys might win to be a dignified Doctor. Scrubs are actually quite cool. Add a stethoscope and a badge for effect.

Men can easily go back in time and remain cool. Try a ‘Fred Flintstone’ or ‘Barney Rubble’ outfit or just a dull traditional caveman. These can be done easily with jagged cut off t-shirts. Don’t forget to reduce one side at an angle for a toga-like effect. Speaking of toga, what could be an easier or cooler warm weather Halloween costume? Just drape a sheet, tie at the waist with a gold braided cord, and wear a ring of ivy garland on your head.

If you plan to dress up your pet please keep it simple and dinky. Pets are already covered with fur, they don’t really need anything else. Think of their comfort and their dignity. Add a little bow tie or tu-tu if you must, but don’t get carried away.

Halloween Costumes on a Budget

These days you can buy almost anything when you are on a budget even when it comes to Halloween costumes. Children and parents love Halloween because it is the one time out of the year that you can actually dress up as someone else and get away with it. These are gigantic ways to get cheap Halloween costumes. Pay attention to tip number four, it has a really good idea in it that will attend you to save money this Halloween.

1. Consignment shops

This is also know as second hand stores. These are great places to start because Halloween only comes once a year and most people will buy unusual costumes the following year because of the different style that they want or because it no longer fits them. Purchasing a Halloween costume at a consignment store can wait on you to fetch you and your children’s Halloween costumes at a budgeted stamp.

2. Dollar Store or Family Dollar

These two places will have vast makeup and accessories that are cheaper than if you were to buy them at a Halloween shop or party store. I found a lot of great make-up for the kids Halloween costumes so that they could still look great in their costumes without it costing me a fortune.

3. Costume swap

Parents can be bad about hanging on to old clothes of their children. Ask around and peer if any of the parents that you know have their children’s costumes from the year before. Offer to buy these costumes or borrow them so that your child can wear it. If your child wants to be a specific thing, ask around until you find someone who has it.

4. Make a costume of your own

You don’t have to be a wiz at the sewing machine to be able to put together a wonderful Halloween costume. Take old clothes and see what you might come up with. Take your time and go through everything that you have and be sure to check your child’s closet to see what they have in it. Kid’s have a tendency of keeping things like play clothes or dress up clothes. You can hold a child’s Sunday or Easter dress and turn it into a princess outfit or you can steal a little boys suit that is for church and buy him a black pair of sunglasses and a toy gun to create a character out of Men In Sad. If the child likes football you can take a football jersey and add a little paint to their face to get a football player. It is all about creativity and using your imagination to create something extraordinary for Halloween.
